Hey, this was really interesting. Thank you. I was able to get my first couple of stories on Substack, but I’ve really been curious about the Notes feature and how people are using it. Thank you so much for sharing! I’m now following and looking forward to more of your writing.

Katherine Ellis's avatar

Thank you so much! 😊 That’s awesome, you’ve already gotten your first stories out, congrats!

Notes can feel a bit mysterious at first, but they’re really fun once you start experimenting. I’m glad this helped, and I appreciate the follow 💙 Looking forward to seeing more of your Substack journey too!

This was dense but a lot of good information here. Thanks for sharing! I've become very comfortable with my blogs and this reminded me that there's a formula. I forgot all about this.

Katherine Ellis's avatar

Really appreciate that! 😊 And that’s so true, once you’re comfortable, the formula kind of disappears in the background. Curious, do you think you’ll start using it again now?

Great post Katherine. So practical and helpful. I'm new to Substack, just bringing my content to the platform. Looking for all advice on being appropriate in this community, sticking with the best practices, and tips for growing readership faster.

What is one thing you wish you knew or did differently when you were starting out?

Katherine Ellis's avatar

Appreciate that! One thing I wish I knew earlier was how powerful Notes and commenting on other writers’ posts can be. It’s one of the fastest ways to connect with the community and grow readers organically.

I need all the help I can get! Ty 🤟

You’re not alone! Most of us are learning as we go. Keep posting Notes and experimenting, it really starts to work over time.

This was great and helpful, especially for a new Substacker (is that a term?). Thank you!

Katherine Ellis's avatar

Glad it helped! And yes, “Substacker” is definitely a term people use around here 😊 Wishing you the best as you grow your publication!

Interesting read for a beginner in Reddit!

Katherine Ellis's avatar

Glad you found it useful! Reddit can actually be a great place for beginners to test ideas and see what resonates before sharing them on Substack.

Katherine Ellis's avatar

That’s great to hear! Glad it helped. Take your time, getting those first articles ready is a big step. Looking forward to seeing your blog when you launch.

I love this breakdown. It’s basically what I’ve been trying to do out into easy to follow directions

Katherine Ellis's avatar

Thank you! Glad it resonated, my goal was simply to turn the process into clear, easy steps anyone can follow.
